Recently, the Marine Life Observatory has deployed a Datawell Directional Buoy, which measures wave energy, wave direction, and sea temperature. The buoy is positioned approximately 1/3 mile offshore between Pacific Grove’s Lovers Point and Hopkins Marine Station. In cooperation with the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP) of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the buoy will provide coastal environment data for use by coastal engineers, planners, and managers, as well as scientists and mariners.
